Terms of Service

The rules for using Decoded, in language you can actually read: what the app is, what it is not, how billing works, and where our responsibility ends and yours begins.

Decoded is an AI tool that gives you one possible reading of one text message. It is not advice, not a verdict, not a professional service — and it can be wrong. You decide what to send. These terms cover the Decoded app and this website. Using either means you accept them.

The short version. Decoded reads one message and tells you what it might mean. It is a second opinion, not the truth, and no substitute for asking her or for talking to a professional. You are 18 or over. You won’t use it to harass, stalk, monitor or pressure anyone, or on messages you had no business having. What you send her is your responsibility. Apple or Google bills you, so cancellations and refunds go through them. We can’t promise the app is right.

What Decoded is

You paste a message someone sent you, up to 500 characters. We send that text to Anthropic’s Claude with our system prompt and return a structured reading: what it probably means, the feeling under it, a green / yellow / red tone flag, suggested replies, and one thing not to say. You can optionally say whether you are dating, together or married; that changes the reading.

That is the whole product. Decoded does not read your inbox and does not remember earlier messages — each decode stands alone. Screenshot analysis is in development, not in the first release. What we store, and who receives it, is in the privacy policy. Read it before you paste something private.

It is not advice, and it can be wrong

A decode is an interpretation produced by a language model — an informed guess. It has never met her, it cannot hear her tone, and it does not know what happened between you last Tuesday. It will sometimes read tension into a message that was simply short, and sometimes miss tension that was there.

So: Decoded is not professional, psychological, medical, legal or relationship advice. Nothing it outputs is a diagnosis of her feelings or a prediction of what she will do. Treat it like a friend’s opinion at 1am: worth weighing, not the final word.

If you copy a suggested reply and send it, you sent it. You are responsible for your own messages and actions.

Not a substitute for her, or for a professional

Decoded is no substitute for talking to the person who sent the message. Very often the right move — and the one the app itself will tell you to make — is to just ask her what she meant.

It is also not therapy, counselling or crisis support. If what you are facing is heavier than a confusing text — a relationship that is unsafe, controlling or abusive; anyone afraid; anyone in danger — stop using the app for that and contact a qualified professional or your local support service. That is the honest limit of an app that reads one sentence.

Who can use it, and how

You must be at least 18. Decoded exists to help you understand a message and reply decently. You agree not to use it:

  • to harass, threaten, stalk, coerce, pressure or manipulate anyone, or to plan any of that;
  • to monitor or surveil a partner, an ex, or anyone else;
  • on messages you obtained without the sender’s knowledge, or have no business having — someone else’s phone, someone else’s account;
  • to impersonate anyone, or to produce anything unlawful, hateful, or meant to deceive;
  • to reverse-engineer, scrape or resell the app, or to get around the free-tier limits.

We can suspend or terminate an account for any of this, without notice and without a refund.

Accounts, free tier and Premium

You need an account to decode a message, and you are responsible for what happens under it. Email hello@getdecoded.app if someone else gets into it.

Free gives you 5 decodes a day, 1 suggested reply, and your last 3 decodes in history. No card, not a trial. Premium is $9.99 per month or $59.99 per year: unlimited decodes, 3 suggested replies instead of 1, unlimited history. Prices are in US dollars and may differ in your store.

Premium runs the same model with the same prompt and gives the same analysis — it buys volume and history, not a smarter answer. The app is not released yet; if you want it on day one, get early access. If we change the price of a subscription you hold, we will tell you first.

Billing, cancelling and refunds

Premium is an in-app subscription sold through the Apple App Store or Google Play, managed for us by RevenueCat. So: Apple or Google takes your money, not us.

Subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends, in your Apple or Google account settings — we cannot do it for you. Refunds are theirs to grant, under their terms. If you cancel, Premium runs out the period you paid for and stops.

Who owns what

We own Decoded: the app, this site, the system prompt, the tone scale, the guides and the design. You get a personal, revocable licence to use it — not to copy it, resell it, or build a competitor from it.

Your messages stay yours. Pasting one gives us no ownership, only the licence we need to run the app: to send that text to Anthropic to be analysed, store the decode against your account so history works, and show it back to you. We do not train models on your messages and we do not sell them. The decode is yours to use.

Warranties and liability

Decoded is provided “as is”. We do not warrant that it will be accurate, available or uninterrupted, and we publish no accuracy figure — we do not have one and will not invent one. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties not given here.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages — lost profits, lost data, distress, or harm to your relationship — including from a decode that was wrong or a reply you chose to send. Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability is capped at the greater of what you paid us in the last twelve months, or $50. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, and your statutory consumer rights stand.

Changes to these terms

We will update these terms as the product changes — when screenshot analysis ships, for instance. For a material change we will update the date at the top and tell account holders first. Carrying on means you accept the new terms; if you don’t, email us to close your account.

Governing law

Nothing in these terms takes away the consumer-protection rights you have where you live. If any part of these terms is unenforceable, the rest stands.
